Is Scores Casino Destined for a Clean Sweep?
Online gambling lover or not, the name Scores Casino isn’t likely to ring a bell. That’s because they’re brand spanking new, at least at the time of writing. Are they destined for greatness? They have the notorious 888 group to back them, that’s already something. They don’t get the green light from us that easily though. The fine print is what really matters; which brings us to this Score Casino review. Wondering whether to take a chance on this new gambling site? We’re about to give you all the answers.

Scores Casino Sign Up Bonus Makes the Grade
The Scores Casino welcome bonus makes the grade, but only just. Those 25 free spins, or bonus spins for our SA players out there; they’re made to jump off the page from the moment you set eyes on the casino. That’s only the half of the story, they’re also throwing in a match deposit bonus and at 200% the online casino is being extra generous.
First deposit sorted, but there’s more where that came from for new players. The welcome bonus extends across the first 3 deposits. Once again, it’s a mix of bonus money and free spins. The only difference here is that you’ll need to use a Scores Casino bonus code to claim each promotion. That’s where the table below should come in rather handy.

The second and third deposit bonuses may not be much, but something is always better than nothing. A lot of other South African online casinos stick to a simple first deposit bonus. Scores Casino seems to be on the right track, but what about the terms? Remember what we said about the fine print, here’s where we’ll spell it out in the list below.
Welcome Bonus Policy
- Min deposit: R200
- Max. wins for each bonus: R8,000 + the initial bonus amount
- Free spins valid on: Selected games
- Free spins valid for: 7 days
- Wagering requirements on match deposit bonuses: 40x Bonus
- Wagering requirements on free spins: 99x Bonus
- % Game Contributions for WR: Slots, Keno, Scratch Card & Arcade – (100%), All Other Virtual & Live Casino Games – (0%)
A 40x bonus wagering requirement on all match deposit bonuses, that’s something we can live with. It’s actually on the lower side when compared to other SA gambling sites. That 99x turnover requirement for Scores Casino free spins bonuses though, now that’s asking for trouble. Let’s just say that players are going to have a hard time completing it. Given that they’re new to online gambling, we can only assume that this is something they’ll pick up on, sooner, rather than later.
In the meantime, there’s the match bonuses to fall back on. Just be sure to stick to slots though or arcade games for that matter. Table games have been omitted from the bonus picture at Scores Casino. Nothing that we haven’t seen before and quite frankly, slots tend to be the favourite anyway.
Scores Casino Bonus Codes – One Step Closer to Weekly Promotions
Bonus codes or promo codes, as Scores Casino likes to call them are kind of a thing. We’ve seen this in our previous section and once you have squeezed every last winning potential out of that welcome package, there’s so much more in store. Existing players are treated to a variety of weakly deals.
The thing about new casinos like Score though is that promotions are subject to change. This is especially so in the first couple of months. They’re finding their feet and trying to understand what players want, it’s understandable. That’s why we won’t go into too much detail here. What we can tell you though is to check back to that promotions page regularly. Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for any Scores Casino promo codes. No bonus code, no promotion; you get the picture.
Is Scores Casino Safe?
Safety is never something we take lightly. When it comes to new faces like Scores Casino though, we’re extra careful. They’re lacking in experience, but that’s not always a bad thing, as we’re about to find out.
Then again, we weren’t expecting anything less from a member of the 888 Group. That eCogra seal on Scores’ homepage links out to the Group’s RNG audit report and it’s up to date of course. Fair gaming is something that tends to be overlooked at gambling sites or assumed rather. Not at Scores Casino though, they have a Fair Play section dedicated entirely to this. They get full points from us.
The casino takes a similar approach when it comes to Responsible Gaming. Those oh so familiar the self-exclusion tools at the casino and the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation logos, they’re clearly visible on the homepage. Plus, they link out to the respective support group websites. Of course, they have a detailed page to fall back on too. But that’s a requirement as per their MGA and GBGA licenses. In case you’re wondering, Scores Casino also provides their licensing details too.
The thing we like most about this online casino is that they’re clear on their terms. General information, bonus terms, banking details, privacy policy; you name it, chances are they have a dedicated section. And if you do come unstuck at some point, Scores Casino has a complaints section to turn to. They’re just that confident in their product!
Scores Casino Payments – Quality Over Quantity
| As of 14th April 2020, players from South Africa are no longer allowed to make credit card transactions at online casinos |
They may not have the quantity of payment methods that we’re used to seeing but with the likes of PayPal, they don’t exactly need it. The e-wallet is always a winner among SA online casino players, and it says a lot about the gambling site in terms of integrity.
Other SA specific payment options available at Scores Casino include Apple Pay and MasterCard. Sure, there are the other regulars including Visa, Paysafecard and Wire Transfer. We were rather surprised though to see that e-wallet giants Skrill have been left out of the picture. This isn’t one of those Boku casino sites either. Instead, they’re offering the option to deposit by phone which if you ask us is rather unique.
The R100 minimum deposit at Scores Casino could be another selling point; it’s usually set at R200. Speaking of deposits, they’re instant except for wire transfers which can take up to 8 business days to process. As for withdrawals, the minimum is also set at R100 but they’re never instant. The Scores Casino withdrawal time actually varies according to the banking method as shown in the table below.

KYC checks are mandatory at all MGA licensed casinos nowadays. Luckily with e-wallets like PayPal and NETELLER, Scores Casino cash outs are still relatively swiftly. Other banking options like wire transfers will always take longer though. It’s a small price to pay for the protection of funds and considering the casino’s sheer transparency, we’ll willing to wait.

A Games Lobby That Scores Top Points
This is an online casino after all, it was only a matter of time before we got to the actual games. If you’re familiar with any of Scores Casino’s sister sites, you may recognize some of the titles already. They’re home to the notorious 888 exclusives. You’ll have to know what you’re looking for though as they aren’t too big on game filters.
For the time being, casino games are divided into different categories according to the main types. Slots are by far your best bet with this one. We aren’t just talking about proprietary games like Nightmare on Elm Street. Top providers including IGT and NetEnt have also been thrown into the mix. Barcest’s Rainbow Riches Slot is another example of a die-hard online slot game. We were rather disappointed to see that Scores does not fall under the Microgaming Casino family. This is perhaps most felt when it comes to progressive slots. They do have a section dedicated entirely to jackpots, that’s a good start, but it’s missing record holder Mega Moolah. Luckily there’s runner up Mega Fortune by NetEnt to take its place. Plus there’s a good selection of other progressive slots too.
Table games haven't been left out of the picture completely. All of these games feature in the 'casino' category. Then again with live dealer games also being included here, things are rather confusing. Plus there's only a couple of options, literally. Video poker, on the other hand, seems to have been omitted. The fact that the game is mentioned in the bonus policy kind of has us expecting that there's more to come. Scores Casino is new after all, we can only expect them to get better. Then again, only time will tell and with so many slot games to choose from, it's well worth the wait.

A Mobile First Casino
Scores Casino is powered by Dragonfish. That in itself already says a lot about the mobile casino. The company is best known for their ‘mobile first’ approach. Combine that with the fact that this is a new gambling site, that should more or less seal the deal for mobile players.
Sure, there is no Scores Casino app available to download but their instant play web app goes beyond perfection. Who needs native apps after all? The casino games lobby almost looks better on mobile than it does on desktop. Browsing is somewhat harder on smaller screens; we’re left wanting more filters but that was the same for the regular site. Luckily, choice of mobile casino games isn’t something we can fault. Scores mobile casino is almost just as varied; the live dealer section is complete for instance.
We can’t help but feel that something is missing though and that’s the live chat button. We’re used to ones that follow you, wherever you scroll. This isn’t something you’ll find at Scores Casino but that’s because live chat isn’t on table, which brings us to our next section
Live Casino ft. NetEnt Live
Scores live casino is a thing and it’s powered by NetEnt Live, that’s already something. As you’ve probably figured out by now though, table games aren’t exactly the priority here. Fans of live dealer games may already feel somewhat let down by the absence of market leader Evolution Gaming. Then again, NetEnt is probably the next best thing, plus the handful of games they do offer reach out to several player niches.
Live roulette, blackjack or baccarat, take your pick. High Rollers at Scores Casino will be pleased to see VIP tables with higher stakes. Casual players on the other hand are also covered with standard limit options. It’s not a massive live casino, but it does the job and it’s also available on mobile. More on this later though.
We only wish that the gambling site had thought to offer a separate live casino section. For the time being, it can only be accessed via the virtual casino which means that filtering isn’t an option. Not that it matters though considering the size. If the online casino were to grow though, we could start to see issues with navigation.
No VIP Program on the Scorecard
Becoming a Scores Casino VIP doesn’t seem to be an option, at least not for the moment. We found this rather strange considering the approach other sister sites take. Let’s just say that the 888 VIP club is a big deal, kind of. Perhaps Scores has something up their sleeves after all? Or if they don’t, we can guarantee that it won’t be long before it becomes a thing.
That isn’t to say that nothing isn’t being done to reward players for their loyalty. Scores Casino has what they refer to as loyalty chips. Here’s how they’re handing them out below.
- R40 real money wager: 1 Loyalty Chip
The more cash you wager, the more loyalty chips you’ll earn; plus, you get to play your favourite casino games. Collect a total of 1000 and you can redeem them back into cash, R20 to be precise. So even if you’re losing, you’re winning, kind of.
As an added perk there’s also an Invite A Friend Bonus. We like to think of it as another chance to prove your loyalty. As the name implies, Scores Casino is rewarding players who bring in new customers. A R200 bonus for each referral plus a monthly limit of 15 friends, you can do the math; it could pay off pretty darn well.
Customer Support – A Work in Progress
Scores Casino live chat isn’t currently an option. You may have already read this earlier in our review. It’s something that we tend to take for granted because most online casinos offer the feature. Funnily enough, Scores offers phone support in its place; something that you won’t find everywhere. Is it enough of a replacement? For some it’s actually a better option, especially those players who prefer a more ‘human’ approach. The only downside is that the phone lines aren’t open 24 hours a day.
The only other way to get in touch with Scores Casino customer support is via email support. They’ve looked to simplify things with an online contact form. Just bear in mind that there will always be a time lag. FAQs are another option, but the section is so limited that more often than not, your query will go unanswered. Which means that if you’re playing out of working hours, you’re left stranded, at least temporarily. Here’s why we think that their customer service needs some work. Considering they’re barely a few months old, we’re pretty sure they’ll figure it out on their own.

A Casino Hoping to Score Big in South Africa
Country-specific landing page, the mention of GBP throughout, that MGA license; could they make it anymore obvious? Scores Casino SA players are definitely made to feel at home. Region exclusive payment options like Apple Pay and PayPal only help to make the package better. Even phone support has been worked around South Africa’s time zone.
The GBGA license does however open the doors to other markets. In fact, Scores Casino also accepts Euro. This is a sign that they’re already looking to expand into other countries. Perhaps we’ll start to see other region-specific payment options included? They are pretty darn new after all; South Africa is definitely a good start. As for the rest, only time will tell.
